After her own divorce, comedian Shawn Pelofsky realized something: divorce shouldn’t be seen as a failure, but as a fabulous new beginning. “I wasn’t going to sit around crying into a pint of ice cream… okay maybe a gallon. But nevertheless, I knew I wanted a parade!” she says with a laugh. That’s how Divorce Parade was born. Pelofsky wanted to take the stigma out of divorce and replace it with pure joy. “I threw my own parade, second-line style, in the streets of New Orleans, surrounded by friends and family. Strangers in the streets were dancing, laughing, and cheering us on. It was better than my own wedding! That’s when it hit me—why don’t we do this for everyone?” Shawn found so much happiness in that celebration of freedom and new beginnings that she knew she had to share it. “Divorce Parade is about turning something people dread into something they crave. It’s not about sadness—it’s about empowerment, love, and letting go with a bang! There’s a whole community of people who want to celebrate their journey, and I’m here to help them throw the party of a lifetime.
